Ajman, UAE — Thumbay Medicity welcomed His Excellency Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, to its flagship campus in Ajman, highlighting the rising role of healthcare, medical education and wellness tourism in shaping the UAE’s diversified, knowledge‑based economy.
His Excellency was received by Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder and President of Thumbay Group, along with Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President of the Healthcare Division, and senior leaders from the Group’s academic and clinical institutions.
During the visit, H.E. Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri emphasized the growing global momentum behind medical and longevity tourism. “These sectors are expanding rapidly worldwide, and the UAE continues to strengthen its infrastructure and capabilities to attract visitors and patients from diverse markets. This progress enhances the competitiveness of our tourism sector and supports the nation’s vision of becoming a leading global center for advanced, sustainable health and wellness,” he said.
He further noted the Thumbay Group’s contribution to this national ambition. “Thumbay Group is a strong example of how the private sector can elevate the UAE’s position in medical and longevity tourism. The Group has become a destination for students from more than 111 countries and patients from across the region. Facilities such as Thumbay Healthcare City help develop specialized services and experiences, reinforcing the UAE’s leadership as a global hub for talent, innovation and world‑class health and education.”
H.E. Bin Touq toured Gulf Medical University — the region’s largest private medical university — along with Thumbay University Hospital, Thumbay Dental Hospital and Thumbay Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Hospital. He was briefed on Thumbay Medicity’s integrated ecosystem, where education, healthcare delivery and research operate in synergy. Gulf Medical University’s evolution since its founding in 1998 was also highlighted, including its status as one of the world’s most internationally diverse medical universities, with students representing over 111 nationalities.
Discussions during the visit centered on the role of private healthcare and academic institutions in supporting the UAE’s economic growth, the country’s emergence as a global destination for health and wellness tourism, and the impact of Thumbay Medicity in attracting international patients, students and investment.

The visit concluded with a tour of Thumbay Medicity’s research and innovation facilities, where His Excellency reviewed ongoing projects and met faculty members, clinicians and students. He engaged with them on their experiences within the Medicity’s academic and research environment.
