Before stepping into the conversation with Swaati Rajpaal, one immediately senses the quiet power of a woman who has transformed light into a language of healing. As the Founder and CEO of SUNORA™ — Your Wellness Sun, Swaati stands at the intersection of design innovation and human wellbeing, redefining how indoor spaces can nurture the mind, body, and spirit. With over two decades of interior design mastery and a visionary approach to wellness technology, she has pioneered the UAE’s first indoor sun‑therapy ceiling panels — a concept that is reshaping modern living. Here is an exciting interview with her.
The Healer’s Philosophy & Inner Calling
What inner calling or life experience awakened your desire to heal people through light and nature-inspired spaces?
For more than twenty years I have designed homes and workplaces, and over time I began to notice something no mood board could capture. A room could be beautifully finished, every surface perfect, and still feel heavy. People would walk in and something in them would quietly shrink.
My own practice in Reiki and meditation had already taught me that we respond to energy long before we respond to décor. Then, while designing a client’s basement room that depended entirely on artificial light, I found myself fighting dark corners with more and more fittings. Around the same time, someone gifted me a book on the circadian rhythm. Those two moments met, and I could not look at a ceiling the same way again. I did not set out to heal through light. I think light found me.
When you speak about “wellness light,” what deeper emotional or spiritual meaning does it hold for you?
Light was our first rhythm. Long before clocks and calendars, the rising sun told the body to wake, to move, to create, and the setting sun told it that it was safe to rest. Wellness light, for me, is the return of that quiet conversation between nature and the human body.
Spiritually, light has always meant presence and hope. When I stand under a wellness light, I feel the same thing I feel on a gentle morning outdoors: a sense of being held. That is what I want to give back to people who spend their lives indoors.
How do you personally define healing in the context of interior environments and human wellbeing?
Healing is rarely dramatic. It happens when a space stops taking from you and begins to give back. A healing interior lets you think clearly in the morning, soften in the evening, and rest well at night, without you having to try.
As designers, we invest so much in walls, floors and furniture, yet the light above us shapes how we feel every single hour. To me, a truly healing space is one where the light is designed with as much love as the furniture.
What do you believe people are truly seeking today when they look for wellness-centric spaces?
They are not looking for more luxury. They are looking for restoration. We spend most of our days inside offices, homes, cars and malls, and somewhere along the way we lost touch with the natural rhythm that kept us balanced.
People want to feel energised without forcing it, calm without escaping, and connected to nature even when they cannot step outside. They are seeking spaces that feel like a deep breath.
SUNORA™ — Light as Therapy, Nature as Medicine
What inspired you to create SUNORA™ as a brand that brings therapeutic sunlight indoors?
It began with a simple question in that basement room: if the sun cannot reach us here, why can we not bring the sun inside? That question would not leave me.
My husband and I started building SUNORA™ together, as a team, with no shortcuts. We wanted the rhythm and spirit of natural sunlight, while making it completely UV-free and infrared-free so it is gentle enough for every space and every person. That is why we call it “Your Wellness Sun.” It is a UAE-developed technology, and we have filed our patent here at home.
How does SUNORA™ go beyond design to become a tool for emotional balance, mental clarity, and inner harmony?
SUNORA™ follows the arc of a natural day. Bright, cool, full-spectrum light supports focus and energy during the working hours, and it gradually turns warm later on, so the body receives the cue to slow down.
What I love most is that it asks nothing of you. There is no routine to remember and nothing to sign up for. It simply becomes part of the room and works quietly for everyone in it, every day. It is a wellness product that supports the body’s own rhythm, and when that rhythm is in balance, clarity and calm have room to grow.
What transformations have you witnessed in people after experiencing SUNORA™’s wellness light?
What moves me most is never a technical measurement. It is the human response.
We opened our own home as a private SUNORA™ experience space and invited leaders from many different industries to sit beneath the light and simply feel it. What surprised us was how universal their response was. Whether they came from the jewellery world or from dentistry, from corporate offices, or were parents preparing to send their children off to university, almost everyone recognised the same quiet struggle with the light they live and work under every day. It was something they carried deep inside, and yet none of them had found a way to answer it.
That is when I realised SUNORA™ had already created its own space in people’s lives, long before it reached them. People have been waiting for it, and now it is here. My hope is that leaders across every industry, and families at home, especially those with young children, will welcome SUNORA™ into their spaces and bring their lives back into balance.
The UAE as a Wellness Innovation Hub
How has Dubai’s fast-evolving lifestyle influenced your mission to bring nature back into indoor spaces?
Dubai is a city of extraordinary ambition. It dreams faster and builds higher than almost anywhere in the world, and I am proud to build here. Yet there is a beautiful irony in our lives: we live in a land blessed with sunshine, and because of our climate and our pace, most of our hours are spent indoors.
That is exactly where SUNORA™ belongs. My mission is not to ask people to change how they live, but to bring the sun’s natural rhythm into the spaces where they already spend their days. The UAE embraces innovation like no other place, and it feels right that a wellness sun was born here.
Human Connection, Emotional Impact & Future Vision
As an entrepreneur, how do you connect your future vision, the desire to serve humanity, with your personal growth?
For me they are one journey. Every step in building SUNORA™ has asked me to grow: from interior designer to founder of a wellness technology, from creating beautiful rooms to taking responsibility for how people feel inside them.
My inner practice keeps me grounded through the pressures of building something new. When I meditate, I come back to why I started. Serving others keeps my vision honest, and growing myself gives me the strength to keep serving.
What legacy do you hope to create as a healer, designer, and wellness visionary in the region?
I hope that one day, in this region, light will be designed with the same care as air and water. That a child in a classroom, a patient in a hospital, an employee at their desk and our elderly parents at home will all live under light that supports them rather than drains them.
If architects and designers begin to treat wellness light as a standard rather than a luxury, and if a woman-led, UAE-developed innovation helped open that door, I will feel my work has meant something.
What is your dream for SUNORA™?
Most importantly, I dream of SUNORA™ in the homes of the UAE’s leaders. Those who carry the vision of this nation deserve light that restores them, because when a leader is healthy, the whole nation is healthy.
From there, I see SUNORA™ in every major company across the UAE, then rising across the GCC and on to countries around the world, reaching every space where people live out their days: homes, schools, offices, hospitals, hotels, and wherever else life happens indoors. Wherever people spend their hours, SUNORA™ must be there, recognised everywhere as a proud UAE innovation.
My heart also goes to the countries where, by God’s design, the sun cannot reach people as fully as it reaches us: across Europe, the Nordic and Scandinavian nations such as Norway, and the lands of the far north near the Arctic, where winter days are short and sunlight is precious. I want SUNORA™ to grow there too, bringing the warmth and rhythm of the sun to the people who need it most.
My dream is bold: to see SUNORA™ spread across the globe within just one year. No one achieves that alone. So I invite you all, architects, designers, leaders, company owners, individuals, homeowners and families, to reach out to me today. Join our SUNORA™ community and help us, and yourselves, carry it to every corner of the globe within one year. SUNORA™, Your Wellness Sun.
