Lluis Mas, the chairman of BELOBABA Fintech is known for being unconventional and innovative. His journey through the growth of BELOBABA, changing the nuances in fintech industry is the proof. What has helped him through all of this was his curiosity. Growing up, Mas was curious about leadership, more specifically Basketball coaches. That’s why he “left basketball at an early age and sought out the best coach in my region.” This decision taught him the importance of self-development and mentorship, preparing him for his later pursuits.
After a successful stint as Director of Admissions at a business school in Estonia, where he witnessed firsthand how education transforms lives, Mas recognized a glaring gap in the emerging world of blockchain. “Back then, there were no institutions offering structured, accredited blockchain education,” he explains. This made him co-found Blockchain Institute and Technology (BIT) in 2017. BIT became the first hybrid online and in-person blockchain program. This would set the foundation for his future innovation in the fintech world.
Mas’s career is marked by a series of ambitious milestones. In 2021, he launched BELOBABA Fund in Gibraltar, the first actively managed tokenized crypto investment fund with a security token, followed by an expansion into the USA in 2022. The launch of BELOBABA’s own Mastercard and netbanking app in 2024 bridged traditional finance with Web3, signaling a bold new direction for the industry. Today, his focus is on the development of a new token designed not only to enhance the utility of the neobank but also to share a portion of monthly fees with holders. This project is the reflection of his vision of a bank that grows alongside its users.
Reflecting on his journey, Mas underscores a simple yet powerful philosophy: “The most valuable lesson I’ve learned in my career is that once you make a clear decision about what you want to do in life, nothing can stop you.” This philosophy has supported him through the uncertainties of entrepreneurship. What has also helped shape his leadership style is his experience with MNCs and openness to learning. All of this has helped him build a relationship and trust with financial institutions, industry leaders, and regulators.
Looking ahead, Mas dreams of a fintech landscape where traditional banks give way to models that make financial solutions accessible. “We want to create a model that benefits everyone by helping people grow their wealth together,” he states.
